Would you love to devote time to creative writing but find that your summer schedule is rapidly filling? Do you want the comfort and flexibility of reading and writing at your own pace but also need the motivation of deadlines and the expertise of a tutor? Whether you'd like to try out a new way to use your imagination or hone your skills in an art you've been practicing for a while, the Creative Writing Tutorial could be the perfect choice.
 
When you register for the Creative Writing Tutorial, you'll choose one of these options:
 
Creative Writing Tutorial: Level I is for junior high or high school students who have not done much creative writing yet.
 
Creative Writing Tutorial: Level II is for high school students who are older and/or have done a fair amount of creative writing, either on their own or in another class. Level II covers more advanced techniques and requires more reading and writing than Level I.
 
Creative Writing Tutorial: Level III is the first Bandusia Tutorials course for adults! The class is open to anyone over the age of eighteen, whether they are a college student or a parent and whether they're exploring creative writing for the first time or have been writing on their own for years.
 
How does the class work?
 
The Creative Writing Tutorial operates asynchronously, which means that you take the class at your own pace without group meetings. The course consists of ten units, the equivalent of a ten-week course, but you can complete the work faster or spread it out over the entire summer term from June 1 through August 31. You can also take a break in the middle of the course, which means that family vacations, county fairs, and summer camps don't need to interfere with your writing goals! As soon as you complete one unit, you can move on to the next, and you will receive detailed feedback from the tutor on each assignment you submit.
 
You will also have five one-on-one conferences with the tutor to discuss your work, each meeting about half an hour long. You may schedule these at your convenience throughout the course, and if you would like to meet more than five times, you may simply add more for an extra $20 per half-hour meeting.
 
What are the assignments like?
 
We'll study facets of fiction such as structure, tension, setting, characterization, yearning, point of view, and dialogue. Each of the ten units consists of a reading assignment (published fiction and/or essays on writing) and a creative writing assignment. Writing assignments range from exercises focused on particular craft elements to rough drafts or revisions of longer pieces. Sometimes you will also write a response reflecting on the published fiction or essay.
 
Whether you register for Level I, II, or III, the tutor will tailor the course to your needs, taking into account any particular goals you have, such as beginning a novel or polishing a short story to submit to magazines.
