Registration

Introduction to Writing and Literature is Bandusia Tutorials’ first class especially for junior high students. This course combines the study of grammar, writing, and literature to provide a complete English course at an intermediate level (6th-8th grade). Students will learn the five-paragraph essay form and write a variety of compositions, including but not limited to a character analysis, comparison/contrast essay, a persuasive essay, a short story, and poetry. Our reading list will take us around the world and back in time through both classic works and Newberry Award winners.

Weekly Homework

The homework for each week will consist of a grammar exercise, a writing assignment, and a reading assignment. We will use a grammar textbook (TBD), and students will complete exercises from it. Writing assignments will guide students through the process of planning, drafting, and revising their compositions, which will range from about 300 words in the beginning of the course to 750 by the end. The weekly reading assignment will usually be 50-60 pages and will be accompanied by study questions and sometimes by a prompt for a response to share in class or on the discussion board.

Note: If this sounds like more work than Expository Writing, that is because Expository Writing is a writing course only, while Introduction to Writing and Literature encompasses the grammar, writing, and literature components of a student’s English curriculum.
